Chubbuck Wins PASS AutoDealer Magazine 150 Scott Chubbuck took advantage of a lap 137 restart to put the winning move on Tracy Gordon for victory in Sundays AutoDealer Magazine 150 at Speedway 95 in Hermon, Maine. The win was Chubbucks first PASS score since June of 2002 when he also visited victory lane at Speedway 95.Chubbucks win came from deep in the field (16th) as a combination of Chubbucks talent, timely cautions and others misfortune playing into the Wiscasset Maine racers hand. Gordon hung on to the second spot and PASS points leader Johnny Clark recovered from numerous pit stops for a hard- earned third place finish. Dave Gorveatt raced home fourth and Travis Benjamin rounded out the top five. Completing the top ten were Chuck LaChance sixth, Andy Saunders seventh, PASS/Northern Race Tires rookie of the race Donnie Whitten eighth, Mike Rowe ninth and Matt Lee in tenth. Cassius Clark was the fastest of the fast in Sunoco Race Fuel time trials, topping a strong field of thirty nine entrants with a lap of 14.717 seconds around the Hermon oval. Clark showed his speed early, taking the lead from the outside of row one at the green and fighting off Sam Sessions for the first forty laps. Sessions took advantage of the high line and got the best of Clark on a restart and spent the next thirty five laps at the point. Clark and Gary Drew brought out the caution just before half-way, sending Clark to the rear and Drew out of the event. Clark later got caught up in a front stretch tangle but returned to finish sixteenth. The restart pitted Sessions against Tracy Gordon and Gordon snatched the lead from Sessions, the pair swapping the top spot several times on restarts. Gordon took over the point on lap 97 and appeared to be in control, pulling out to a straightaway lead until a lap 127 caution brought Gordon back to Sessions and the rest of the field. The lap 135 restart saw the pair battling side by side for two laps but Sessions went spinning high off turn four, ending his bid for the 2004 Speedway 95 sweep. The caution for Session spin set up the winning move for Chubbuck. Now second, Chubbuck took the outside line around Gordon to victory by a margin of .309 seconds. A host of drivers saw promising runs go by the wayside, including Ben Rowe (spin with the 01 of Saunders that left Rowe stuck off the front stretch, one lap down) Gary Smith (flat tire after running as high as second), Rick Martin (engine), Larry Gelinas (engine), and Scott Mulkern. Johnny Clarks third place finish provided a little padding to his series point lead over Ben Rowe as the two-time and defending series champ had to settle for an unofficial fourteenth place finish. Heat race wins went to Scott King, Mike Rowe and Scott Mulkern. Sessions won the pole dash with John Phippen and Richie Dearborn winners in the consolation rounds. A B Main was added to the days racing schedule due to the large field assembled and Jeremie Whorff raced his way into the AutoDealer Magazine 150 by winning the B. The Pro All Stars travel to Canaan Fair Speedway in Canaan NH next Sunday August 29th for a doubleheader event with the True Value Modified Series. Sunoco Race Fuel Time Trials for the Pro All Stars get the green at 3:15 PM with racing set for 4:00 PM. The pit area opens at 11:00 AM with practice slated for one oclock. |
