Church Conquers Rainy Ace for
First PASS South Win Of Season
ALTAMAHAW, NC (May 9) – Current points leader Tyler Church passed race long leader Trevor Noles with six laps to go to win his first Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model race of the season Friday night at Ace Speedway. Church’s win in the Ace’s Wild 150 was his first in a year that has that has already seen him finish second twice and third on one occasion.

“The car was a little tight and I started moving around a found something over in turn four and man, this car came alive,” said Church after becoming the fourth different winner in four PASS South events at Ace Speedway. “This was a hard race. Me and my daddy, we work so hard on this car. This race is for him.”

Due to thunderstorms in the area, qualifying was delayed for over two hours as series and track officials attempted to dry the track. PASS officials made the decision to go to a “European style” qualifying format which saw groups of cars take to the track for 10 laps with the lineup being determined by group speeds. Rookie Jared Irvan claimed his first career PASS South quick qualifying time with a lap of 15.228 seconds around the tricky 4/10 mile speedway. Following the traditional PASS top 10 qualifier redraw, Irvan would drop back to third while Trevor Noles and Joe Ryan Osborne moved up to the front row for the start of the race.

After another thunderstorm moved over the speedway to delay the start once again, Noles and Osborne would finally lead the field to green shortly before 10 PM Eastern. But, Osborne missed a shift on the initial start causing the field to stack up behind them. Tate Fogleman and David Latour, Jr. both spun into the inside guardrail resulting in significant damage for Fogleman. Veteran Jimmy Doyle also suffered damage in the incident and was finished for the night.

When racing got back under way, Noles jumped out into a lead he would not soon relinquish. Irvan and Jared Fryar went back and forth for the runner-up spot before Irvan eventually settled into second behind the leader. The race was slowed two more times early on for minor spins by Bill Catania and Lee Hansard.
Noles and Irvan continued to lead through a long green flag run that would last over the next 100 laps. During that time, Tyler Church was making his way to the front after starting in 10th. Just past halfway, Church was in the top five after passing the all-time PASS South wins leader Preston Peltier as they exited turn four.

Church continued his climb to the front moving around Brandon Setzer and Jared Fryar to take third. As he closed in on Irvan for second, Irvan’s Auramist machine began showing sparks and slowed on the speedway. The final caution of the night waved with 24 laps to go when Irvan stopped in turn three due to a flat right front tire.

Noles maintained his lead on the restart, but Church was close behind. With 6 laps to go, Church got the run he needed exiting turn four and took the lead from Noles as they entered turn one. Church checked out on the field over the final laps to take his first PASS South Super Late Model win of the season over Noles, Setzer, Fryar, and Joe Heigl. Rounding out the top ten were Peltier, Tyler Dippel, Cole Timm, Irvan, and Roger Lee Newton.

In the PASS Pro Late Model division, Kodie Conner passed Jeff Batten with 15 laps to go and held on for his first career win. Rounding out the top five were Walker Yates, Lucas Jones, Batten, and Jacob Schneider.

The PASS South Super Late Models and PASS Pro Late Models will be in action next along with the Pee Dee/Coastal Supertrucks on Saturday night May 31 at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, NC.

Irvan, PASS South Title Contenders Looking For Breakthrough At Ace
CHARLOTTE, NC (May 7) - Through the first four races of the 2014 Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model season, fender-to-fender battles and close finishes have been the order of the day. Daniel Hemric, Roger Lee Newton, and DJ Shaw have all tasted the spoils of victory so far this season, while PASS South contenders like Cole Timm, Tyler Church, and Jared Irvan have just fell short of taking their first checkered flags of the year. But, that all could easily change with Friday night's Ace's Wild 150 at Ace Speedway.

The Ace's Wild 150 marks a return for the PASS South Super Late Models to the Ace Speedway for the first time since 2011. A strong field of contenders will be vying to become the fourth different PASS South winner at Ace Speedway in as many races and join Andy Loden, Ryan Blaney, and Clay Rogers as one of a select few who have managed to tame one of North Carolina's toughest short tracks.
Jared Irvan holds Ace Speedway as one of his favorite tracks on the circuit. Even though this Friday night's Ace's Wild 150 will be the first time the third generation racer has ever competed in a PASS South Super Late Model at Ace, it is not the first time he has ever raced there. Irvan raced several times at Ace in recent years in the USAC HPD Midget Series, a division that will ironically be competing on the undercard to the Ace's Wild 150.

"Ace Speedway is probably my favorite track in all the different types of cars I've driven," said Irvan, after scoring a season-high fourth place finish in the Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory. "That track is just so fun to go around in everything I've ever been in and I've always ran really, really well there. Hopefully we can go there and get our first win in a PASS Super Late Model."

While all of the title contenders will be hungry for a win at Ace, Irvan knows a good finish is important as he and his Auramist sponsored team compete for their first PASS South Super Late Model title. With his father, 1991 Daytona 500 winner, Ernie Irvan, firmly behind him, Jared Irvan will be looking toward the big picture as he races for the championship and tries to gain ground on PASS South points leader Tyler Church. Trailing Church by just 54 points, Irvan realizes Ace Speedway provides him with a great opportunity to close ground on the points leader at a track Church has very limited experience competing on.

"Tyler Church has gone out and done what he needs to do to stay in the points lead and it's going to be tough to beat him for sure," said Irvan. "But hopefully we can go out and run better than we did last week and better than the week before that and just keep getting better as the season goes on and maybe get us a couple of wins."

Another full field of racers is expected for the Ace's Wild 150 in addition to Irvan, including fellow championship contenders Tyler Church, Cole Timm, and Tyler Dippel. Former PASS South and PASS National Champion Preston Peltier will be seeking his first Ace win along with veterans John Batten, Clete Caywood, Jimmy Doyle, and Brandon Ward. Raleigh area racers Joe Heigl and Trevor Noles will each be seeking their first career PASS South wins as well as Tate Fogleman and Brandon Setzer. Georgia's Lee Hansard and Pennsylvania's Joe Ryan Osborne will return to the series for the first time since March and rookie Jared Fryar will make his first attempt at competing in a PASS South Super Late Model at Ace.

Action gets under way on Friday, May 9th at Ace Speedway with pit gates opening at Noon and rotating practice for all divisions from 2 - 5 PM. Qualifying will begin at 5:45 PM and racing will start at 8 PM, featuring the Ace's Wild 150 for the PASS South Super Late Models, 50 laps for the PASS Pro Late Models, and action for the USAC HPD Midget Series.

The Pro All Stars Series is recognized as North America's premier sanctioning body for asphalt Super Late Models and boasts such marquee events as PASS South's Easter Bunny 150 at the historic Hickory Motor Speedway, the Autobus La Quebecoise Triple Crown at Autodrome Chaudière, and the legendary Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway.

More Close Competition On Tap
For PASS In Return To Ace
CHARLOTTE, NC (April 30) - With a quarter of the season behind them, the racers and fans of the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models are raving about the competition thus far. In the first four races of the year, three have been decided in the final two laps and the other with a pass for the win with 10 laps to go by Daniel Hemric who nearly lost a lap in the early stages at Greenville. Hemric followed that win in the Woodman Racing #41 at Greenville up by driving the Carswell Motorsports #98 around Cole Timm with two laps to go for the win at Dillon. At Orange County, Roger Lee Newton and Trevor Noles battled from the drop of the green flag of the Orange Blossom Special to Newton taking the checkered flag as Noles spun across the finish line. Then, at Hickory, hometown favorite Tyler Church appeared to be on his way to a popular win until a bump by DJ Shaw entering turn three on the final lap sent Church up the track and Shaw to victory lane.

Many expect the same type of thrilling action that has been seen so far this season at the series' next event, the Ace's High 150 at Ace Speedway on Friday night May 9. This will be the first time the PASS South Super Late Models have visited Ace since 2011 when Clay Rogers took the checkered flag over Ryan Blaney, who incidentally won there earlier that season. Ace Speedway is known as being one of the toughest, tightest 4/10 mile tracks in the South. With drivers dropping their left side tires down on the flat apron to help their machines turn around the tricky speedway. Impressive second year PASS South Super Late Model driver Cole Timm takes it even a step further.

"The quick way around Ace is when your left side door hits the inside wall in turn one and two," said Timm, who currently sits second in PASS South points.
After coming close several times to capturing that elusive first PASS South victory, Timm feels he might have his best shot yet in the Ace's High 150 at Ace Speedway. Before graduating to PASS South, Timm was one of the top drivers in the upstart PASS Pro Late Model division. And, Ace Speedway was one of his best tracks on the circuit.

"Ace has been one of my most successful racetracks for sure," said Timm. "I had four wins there in the PASS Pro Late Model division when it first started out as the Super Limited class. Right now, we're 4 for 4 at Ace and undefeated. Hopefully we can make it 5 for 5."

Action gets under way on Friday, May 9th at Ace Speedway with pit gates opening at Noon and rotating practice for all divisions from 2 - 5 PM. Qualifying will begin at 6 PM and racing will start at 8 PM, featuring the Ace's High 150 for the PASS South Super Late Models, 50 laps for the PASS Pro Late Models, and action for the USAC HPD Midget Series.
