PASS South Win at Southern
National |
LUCAMA, NC (May 31)
– Daniel Hemric took
advantage of late race
contact between leaders
Preston Peltier and Trevor
Noles to secure his third
Pro All Stars Series (PASS)
South Super Late Model win
of the season in Saturday
night’s Dogwood Blossom 150
at Southern National
Motorsports Park. All three
of Hemric’s PASS South
triumphs this year have come
after late race rallies that
have seen him take the lead
with 12 or fewer laps left
to go in each race.
“Without a little luck on
your side you can never get
one of these things, these
races are so hard to win
now,” said Hemric, after
becoming the first multiple
time winner in 7 PASS South
events at Southern National.
“The cautions fell right so
we could show the fans what
we had left. It’s just an
honor to be a part of this
deal and hopefully we can
come back and do it again
soon.”
In qualifying
for the Dogwood Blossom 150,
PASS South Super Late Model
points leader Tyler Church
bested Peltier by .002
seconds for this 3rd career
fast qualifying time. After
the top 10 qualifiers
redraw, Church would pull
pill number 2 to start on
the outside pole alongside
rookie Harrison Burton.
At the drop of the green
flag, Burton jumped out
front to lead the stout 23
car field around the high
banked 4/10 mile speedway.
The first caution of the
night would wave on lap 26
when top 10 runner Tyler
Dippel spun in turn three
and collected the machine of
Dusty Cornelius. Both cars
would sustain significant
damage and would be finished
for the night.
While
Burton and Peltier continued
to lead, Church was
struggling. The PASS South
points leader began to drop
through the field and would
eventually stop on the track
with a flat right front tire
to bring out the second
caution of the night on lap
47.
Following the
restart, Peltier was able to
move around Burton for the
lead. The handle on Burton’s
car was starting to slip
away as Trevor Noles moved
by to take second. While the
leaders were battling up
front around the halfway
mark of the 150 lap race,
Jay Fogleman and Hemric were
starting their climb to the
front running 10th and 11th
respectively.
The
third caution of the night
would wave with 40 laps to
go for a solo spin by Zane
Smith on the front
straightaway. On the
restart, Peltier appeared to
spin his tires allowing
Noles to move into the lead.
But, just 12 laps later
Peltier reassumed the top
spot as he moved by Noles
for the lead. As Peltier and
Noles battled hard up front,
Cole Timm, Brandon Setzer,
and Hemric were all closing
in from behind.
With
12 laps to go, Noles made
contact with Peltier in turn
2 sending the leader around.
For the restart, the
leaderboard took a different
look as Setzer and Hemric
would lead the field around
for the restart. At drop of
the green flag, Hemric was
able to take the lead from
Setzer entering turn one.
Hemric maintained his
advantage the rest of the
way to take the checkered
flag in the Dogwood Blossom
150 ahead of Setzer,
Fogleman, Timm, and Jared
Irvan. Rounding out the top
10 were Burton, Daniel
Keene, Jr., Church, Peltier,
and Michael Rouse.
Austin Thompson took the
lead from Jeff Batten for
the final time with 13 laps
to go and held on the rest
of the way for his second
career PASS Pro Late Model
win. Early race leader Kodie
Conner struggled on the
previous restart losing the
lead to Batten before
eventually spinning as he
exited turn four. Following
Thompson at the finish were
Nick Robinson, Batten, Lucas
Jones, and Matt Murphy.
Jimmy Herrington and
Billy Hogan raced
side-by-side for the first
ten laps before Herrington
took command and led the
rest of the way for the win
in the Pee Dee Coastal Super
Truck Series feature.
Rounding out the top five
were Hogan, Bryan Blackwell,
Michael Cooper, and Jody
Measamer.
The PASS
South Super Late Models will
be in action again next
Saturday night, June 7 at
South Boston Speedway in
South Boston, VA along with
twin events for the Limited
Sportsman, plus Pure Stocks
and Legends. |

Glory At Southern National |
CHARLOTTE, NC (May
27) – As the Pro All Stars
Series (PASS) South Super
Late Models prepare to
return to Southern National
Motorsports Park this
weekend, the series is in
the midst of one of its most
competitive seasons ever.
Through five races so far
this year, there have been
four different winners. Only
Daniel Hemric has been able
to double up in victory lane
in 2014, yet that was with
two different teams, Woodman
Racing and Carswell
Motorsports.
This
Saturday night’s 2nd Annual
Dogwood Blossom 150 could
very well see the fifth
different PASS South Super
Late Model winner this
season. Southern National
Motorsports Park in eastern
North Carolina has
traditionally been a
stronghold for Super Late
Model racing. PASS South
competitors John Batten and
Joe Heigl are both former
Super Late Model track
champions at the high
banked, 4/10 mile speedway.
Veteran racer Randy
Renfrow has also seen his
fair share of success at
Southern National behind the
wheel. But, these days,
Renfrow is finding success
in PASS South as the crew
chief for Coulter
Motorsports. Renfrow first
wrenched cars in PASS South
on a limited basis for Joey
Coulter, before moving on to
a full assault for the
championship with Gray
Gaulding in 2012. After a
strong season last year with
multiple drivers behind the
wheel of the #2 machine,
Renfrow is now mentoring
Trevor Noles as he competes
for the championship and
Rookie-Of-The-Year honors in
PASS South.
Growing
up in nearby Fuquay-Varina,
NC, Noles is very familiar
with the tracks of eastern
NC. Noles first experience
racing full size stock cars
came at Southern National
Motorsports Park and that
has him excited for his
prospects this weekend.
“Southern National is
probably one of my favorite
racetracks to go to, it’s
high-banked and you can keep
a lot of speed there,” said
Noles, driver of the
Military Missions In Action
Chevrolet. “It’s near my
hometown and I’m looking
forward to going there
again. You know heading to
Kenly and South Boston the
next two weeks should be
good since we raced there
last year. Just getting used
to a track for the first
time is one of the hardest
things, so I’m excited about
going back.”
Last
year, Noles dominated that
PASS Pro Late Model
division, winning the
championship while driving
for Coulter Motorsports on
the strength of 7 wins in 12
starts. And, in just a
handful of PASS South Super
Late Model starts in 2013,
Noles was able to score a
career best second place
finish to Austin Theriault
last June at Southern
National.
Despite the
success of a year ago, 2014
has been somewhat of a
struggle for Coulter and
Renfrow. But things have
definitely turned around for
the duo as they head home
this weekend to Southern
National. After a top 10
finish in the prestigious
Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory
Motor Speedway, Noles put
forth his best performance
thus far in a PASS South
Super Late Model, leading
144 laps and finishing
second at Ace Speedway in
the most recent event for
the series. With that said,
Noles realizes the learning
curve is steep when racing
in the most competitive
short track series in North
America.
“Moving up
has definitely been tough
trying to get used to the
speed and saving the tires,”
said Noles, who currently
sits fifth in PASS South
points. “You know we’re just
having to get used to racing
with these guys, they’re a
good group to race with and
we’re glad to be here.”
Hometown fans can see
Trevor Noles in person along

Hopefuls Ready For
Return To Southern National |
CHARLOTTE, NC (May
21) - After successfully
returning to Southern
National Motorsports Park in
Kenly, NC last year, the Pro
All Stars Series (PASS)
South Super Late Models are
ready to once again hit the
high banks on Saturday, May
31 for the 2nd Annual
Dogwood Blossom 150. This
year, teams return to
Southern National with a
hefty notebook to rely on
full of data acquired in the
series' four trips to the
track in 2013.
Wallkill, NY's Tyler Dippel
is especially looking
forward to returning to
Southern National for the
Dogwood Blossom 150. After
competing on a very limited
basis with the PASS South
Super Late Models last year,
the 14-year-old Empire State
driver heads back to
Southern National
Motorsports Park where he
qualified in the top 10 for
last year's season-ending
Mason Dixon Meltdown. And
that's significant for the
young driver. Southern
National will be the first
return trip for Dippel of
any of the tracks he has
competed on while racing in
PASS South.
"I like
small, slick racetracks and
Southern National was pretty
slick when we went there,"
said Dippel. "We have a
little bit to build on from
Southern National since we
went there last year. So,
hopefully we can use our
prior knowledge from there
and get a really good
finish."
It is no
surprise that slick
racetracks would play to
Dippel's driving style.
After all, Dippel cut his
teeth racing on the tough
dirt tracks of the
Northeast. Most recently,
Dippel has become one of the
top Small Block Modified
drivers in New York
competing at tracks such as
Middletown, Accord, and
Lebanon Valley.
Joining with veteran car
owner and mechanic Buggy
Pletcher this year, Dippel
is showing his potential on
asphalt as he competes
against the top short track
drivers in the country. In
just seven PASS South Super
Late Model starts dating
back to last year, Dippel
has shown progress each
week, recording a PASS South
career high third place
finish in the Orange Blossom
Special at Orange County
Speedway back in April.
Dippel currently sits fifth
in PASS South points and,
more importantly, leads the
prestigious PASS National
Championship standings
heading to the 41st Annual
Oxford 250 in July.
"I feel pretty good and like
everything is starting to
come around," said Dippel,
driver of the Tycar
Trenchless Technologies
Chevrolet. "We struggled a
little bit at the beginning
of the season, but I feel
like it's just starting to
come together and I can't
wait to get back to Southern
National."
Dippel
also donates 50-percent of
his on-track winnings to the
St. Jude Children's Research
Hospital, an institution
recognized for its treatment
of children with cancer and
other catastrophic diseases.
Fans can catch Tyler
Dippel and all the "Big Boys
With The Bad, Fast Toys"
