ZANE SMITH - SLM #77 |
PASS South and “The
Howler” Return to Greenville-Pickens
This Weekend |
CHARLOTTE, NC (October 21) -
After two months off due to rainouts
at Southern National Motorsports
Park and Myrtle Beach Speedway, the
Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South
Super Late Models and Pro Late
Models will be back on the track
this weekend at the historic
Greenville-Pickens Speedway. And it
is also fitting that as PASS
celebrates 10 years of being the
South's longest running and most
prestigious Super Late Model
sanctioning body, that it would
bring back one of the most popular
events of the series early days.
From 2007-2009, "The Howler" at
Greenville-Pickens Speedway saw some
of the biggest names in short track
racing compete for the win at the
legendary South Carolina speedway.
Maine's Cassius Clark took the win
in the inaugural "Howler" and
followed that up by capturing the
first PASS National Championship at
Greenville in 2008, a race won by
Nevada driver Alex Haase. 6-time
PASS North Super Late Model champion
Johnny Clark won the most recent
"Howler" in 2009.
This
weekend, "The Howler" will be back
at Greenville-Pickens Speedway as
the PASS South Super Late Models get
set to tackle the flat half-mile for
125 green flag laps. Three drivers,
Joey Doiron, Ben Rowe, and Tate
Fogleman, are only separated by 22
points as they prepare to vie for
the 2015 PASS National Championship
at Greenville-Pickens Speedway.
While the battle for the
national title will be settled this
weekend at Greenville-Pickens
Speedway, the PASS South Super Late
Model championship still has three
more races to go. Following "The
Howler," the Southern title fight
will go to Concord Speedway for the
13th Annual North-South Shootout on
November 7 and will then come down
to the 10th Annual Mason-Dixon
Meltdown 200 at Hickory Motor
Speedway on November 21.
So
far this season, Huntington Beach,
CA driver Zane Smith has been the
man to beat in the PASS South
championship battle. The 16-year-old
driver, who is in his second year
racing PASS South Super Late Models,
has gone to victory lane three
times, with wins at Kingsport
Speedway and Concord Speedway in May
and most recently at South Boston
Speedway in August. Those wins have
propelled Smith to an advantage of
more than 100 points over his
nearest competitors, Fogleman, Jody
Measamer, and Matt Craig, as they
look to Greenville this weekend.
But, while the focus for many might
be the championship, that's not the
case for Smith.
"I'm beyond
pleased with my year so far, knowing
we have three wins in PASS South and
looking for another this weekend at
Greenville," says Smith, driver of
the Pro Am Racing Products #77
Chevrolet. "I don't really want to
think about points. I just want to
go out there and win races!"
For Smith and the Gary Crooks led
team, Greenville-Pickens Speedway
could be another opportunity to flex
their muscle in 2015. Competing in a
partial schedule last year with
another team, Smith completed every
lap at Greenville-Pickens in the
Firecracker 125 and finished 9th.
Smith hopes his experience last
year, albeit at a different time of
the season, will help him to another
victory in "The Howler" this
Saturday night.
"I'm looking
forward to Greenville-Pickens
because it's a super racy track and
tire saving will be a huge factor
there," says Smith. "We have a new
car for Greenville so I'm definitely
looking forward to giving it a
shot."
While a lot of eyes
will be focused on the title battles
in PASS National, PASS South, and
PASS Pro Late Model, many drivers
will be looking for their first
series wins this season at
Greenville. All the championship
contenders have filed early entries
along with PASS South veterans Jeff
Batten and Jimmy Doyle. Vinnie
Miller will be driving a team car to
that of Smith out of the Crooks
Racing stable, while CJ Greaves will
make his first start for Kyle Busch
Motorsports. Lee Hansard, who led
the most laps at Anderson Motor
Speedway in March, will return,
while Gus Dean makes his first start
of 2015. Quebec racer and PASS North
regular Raphael Lessard also plans
to make his first PASS South start
at Greenville-Pickens this weekend.
Action begins on Friday, October
23 at Greenville-Pickens Speedway
with rotating practice from 3-6 PM.
On Saturday, October 24 pit gates
open at 11:30 AM, followed by
rotating practice from 1:30-4 PM,
and qualifying at 4:30 PM. Main
event racing goes green at 6 PM for
the PASS Pro Late Models, Front
Wheel Drives, Renegades, and 125
laps in "The Howler" for the PASS
Super Late Models. PASS South Super
Late Model entry forms and the
complete schedules for the events at
Greenville-Pickens Speedway, Concord
Speedway, and Hickory Motor Speedway

The
Pro All Stars Series is recognized
as North America's premier
sanctioning body for asphalt Super
Late Models and boasts such marquee
events as the legendary AIM
Recycling Oxford 250 Presented By
Kenny U-Pull at Oxford Plains
Speedway and PASS South's Easter
Bunny 150 at the historic Hickory
Motor Speedway.

TATE FOGLEMAN #8f |
|
BEN ROWE #4n -
JOEY DOIRON #73 |
PASS National
Championship To Be Decided At
Greenville-Pickens |
CHARLOTTE, NC (October 13) -
Although three races remain in the
2015 Pro All Stars Series (PASS)
South Super Late Model schedule, the
PASS National Championship Series
will be decided next weekend at
Greenville-Pickens Speedway. With
the return of "The Howler" to the
legendary upstate South Carolina
speedway, three drivers come into
the weekend separated by just a
handful of points. Points leader
Joey Doiron leads 3-Time PASS
National Champion, Ben Rowe, and
Tate Fogleman by a total of 22
points as they head to
Greenville-Pickens Speedway
competing for Super Late Model
racing's only true national
championship.
In addition to
being a regular contender for the
PASS North championship over recent
years, Doiron has made 9 PASS South
Super Late Model starts during the
last two years, including a start at
Greenville-Pickens Speedway driving
for Dicky Woodman in March, 2014.
The Berwick, ME native hopes that
experience racing on the flat
half-mile will help to propel him to
his first PASS National
Championship.
"I just think
it's another race, we're obviously
going there to try and win, that's
the goal every week," said Doiron,
driver of the JBJ Machine #73
Chevrolet. "I learned a lot about
the extreme tire wear, but this year
running my own car, I think we'll be
a little bit better knowing what we
need for a feel as far as making the
car last the whole race."
Ben
Rowe's stats in PASS are pretty much
unmatched. The Turner, ME driver is
the All-Time Win's leader, a 4-Time
PASS North Super Late Model
Champion, and even won the PASS
South title in 2009. As he seeks his
unprecedented 4th PASS National
title, Rowe once again finds himself
in a tight battle. Last year, Rowe
managed to take the championship
over Tyler Dippel thanks to a podium
finish in the Mason-Dixon Meltdown.
This year, Rowe returns to the
upstate for the first time since a
PASS National win in March at
neighboring Anderson Motor Speedway.
"Greenville is fast, old, and
wore out which always puts on a
great race," says Rowe, driver of
the Richard Moody & Sons
Construction #4 Toyota. "I think we
have had some good runs there, so
hopefully we can continue that and
get out of the slump we're in. We'll
see how the points fall at the end
of the night."
For the third
straight year, Durham, NC's Tate
Fogleman has a shot at the PASS
National Championship as the series
comes to Greenville-Pickens.
Fogleman led the points as the race
for the title made its Northern
swing, but a blown power steering
line at Airborne Park Speedway while
running third and a late-race
accident in the 42nd Annual Oxford
250 have caused him to slip to
third. The third generation driver
hopes the finale coming in the South
will allow him to come from behind
and join his father, Jay, as a PASS
National Champion.
"We are in
contention again for the national
championship heading into the last
race at Greenville and we're excited
about that," said Fogleman, driver
of the Fogleman Landfill & Recycling
#8 Ford. "It's been a tight battle
all year, we've been in the lead
with a cushion and have also had our
lows. We have fought hard and given
it our all this year and hopefully
we can cap it off with the
championship."
Action begins
on Friday, October 23 at
Greenville-Pickens Speedway with
rotating practice from 3-6 PM. On
Saturday, October 24 pit gates open
at 11:30 AM, followed by rotating
practice from 1:30-4 PM, and

Drives, Renegades, and 125 laps in

Models. PASS South Super Late Model

PASS Cancels Myrtle Beach
Race Due To Historic
Flooding and Impending
Forecast |
CHARLOTTE, NC
(October 7) - Due to the
recent historic floods in
South Carolina and this
weekend's impending forecast
for the area, Pro All Stars
Series (PASS) officials have
cancelled the October 10th Bash At The Beach II
at Myrtle Beach Speedway for
the PASS South Super Late
Models.
Officials have been
monitoring the recent
flooding in the area around
Myrtle Beach Speedway and,
due to the high probability
of rain currently forecasted
for Saturday, have decided
that its in everyone's best
interest to cancel the event
at this point. Furthermore,
conditions are expected to
deteriorate in Horry County,
especially in nearby Conway,
due to the flooding of the
Waccamaw River. An estimated
11 trillion gallons of water
have fallen in the state of
South Carolina over the last
week.
"The events in
South Carolina over the last
week have really been hard
to watch and are thoughts
are with everyone down
there," said PASS President
Tom Mayberry. "Despite our
best efforts to try and make
this race happen, the
weather doesn't look like it
will cooperate. As the
flooding continues and with
many roads either closed are
washed out, we feel like its
best in the interest of
safety to cancel this
weekend's activities." |

PASS Events At Southern
National Cancelled Due
To Rainy Forecast; Will
Not Be Rescheduled |
CHARLOTTE, NC
(September 23) - Pro All
Stars Series (PASS)
officials announced late
Wednesday that this
weekend's events for the
PASS South Super Late Models
and PASS Pro Late Models at
Southern National
Motorsports Park have been
cancelled due to weather.
Officials have been
monitoring the forecasts for
several days and it has
continued to deteriorate,
with a high probability of
heavy rains in excess of 3
inches forecasted for
eastern North Carolina. The
events scheduled for this
weekend at Southern National
Motorsports Park will not be
rescheduled.
"In the
best interest of our teams
and with several different
weather outlets predicting
heavy rains this weekend, we
felt like it was best to go
ahead and cancel the events
scheduled for Southern
National," said PASS
President Tom Mayberry.
"Hopefully, this will allow
our teams to cancel hotel
reservations and will also
give them the opportunity to
race elsewhere if they so
choose." |
