SHAW SCORES 3rd WIN of 2022
The August 13th, 2022 Spencer Group Paving 150 victory marks win number three of the season for DJ Shaw from Center Conway, NH. The 5-time PASS North Champion had his work cut out for him after starting 12th on the grid and almost going a lap down early. The Dale Shaw Racecars #60s was able to rally late in the race to claim the victory in dramatic fashion leaving fans "Shaw" struck.

In the three SLM heat races the #21 of Joey Doiron, the #29 of Trevor Sanborn and the #60s of Dj Shaw scored victories, proving they were going to be top contenders in the 150 lap main event.

After the heats the 32-car field was set for feature racing action. Trevor Sanborn and Jeff White in the #50grit brought the field to green flag racing, but a stack up on the initial green caused the first spin up of the night. Multi-time OPS Track Champion Dennis Spencer Jr. went around on the front stretch and 2015 Oxford 250 winner Glen Luce suffered heavy damage to the right front of his Number 7L. The field restarted, and Jeff White had the advantage rolling down into turn one. White almost cleared Sanborn but the 29 car applied a little pressure to the left rear quarter and wiggled White up the track and Sanborn was able to regain the lead. The action throughout the pack was intense, and the #32 of Nick Jenkins got turned around on the backstretch. The incident collected Mr. Independent Scott Moore #03 and Whelen Modified all star Anthony Nocella #M3 making his first PASS start of the season.

Two laps in two cautions had already flown. Sanborn would retain his pole starting position for the third time. This time however it would stay green for a minute. Joey Polewarczyk in the Richard Moody Racing #4nh moved into the second position and quickly began putting pressure on the leader Sanborn. Joey Doiron's #21 was on a mission as just 50 laps in he was already working into the top 5.

Meanwhile, Trevor Sanborn was setting sail up front. Sanborn had already lapped the current PASS North Point leader Ryan Kuhn #72 and was catching up to cars running just outside of the top 10. Drivers in danger of losing a lap included defending Champion Johnny Clark #54, Dillon Moltz #5, Joe Pastore #30p and DJ Shaw #60s. On lap 66 Johnny Clark got into the back of Dillon Moltz while feeling the pressure from the leaders. Moltz's RB Performance machine would end up spinning to the infield and result in the 3rd caution of the night.

Sanborn would hold the lead again on the ensuing restart. The #88 of Brandon Barker looked to be moving forward, but after getting into the back of the 7L of Glen Luce things changed rapidly. Glen did a great job of saving the race car but would fall all the way to the rear of the field bringing Brandon Barker with him.

One driver moving forward was The King, Mike Rowe. Making his first start of 2022 after health issues had sidelined him for the season, Rowe came to Oxford chasing win #153. The all-time winningest driver in Oxford Plains Speedway history had worked all the way up into the 6th spot. Right behind Rowe the lap car of Randy Goulet #45 was spun by the #50 car of Gabe Brown in turn 3, and the tangle would send Joey Pastore's #20 in to the front stretch wall on lap 79 for the fourth caution of the event.

After the restart Joey Pole #4nhstarted to fade while Ben Ashline #99, Joey Doiron #21d and Max Cookson #39 started to turn up the wick a little.

On lap 94 disaster struck for the leader Trevor Sanborn. Sanborn had led all the laps and looked to have the race well in hand until the car shut off exiting turn 2. An apparent ignition issue would relegate him to a 26th place finish and cause caution #5.

Ashline would inherit the lead but the restart was all Joey Doiron. Doiron shot to the lead and would start slowly extending his advantage over Ashline and Cookson while DJ Shaw had worked his way into the top 5 for the first time at lap 100. As the laps started to wind down Shaw continued his climb through the field running down Max Cookson passing him quickly and then running down Ashline running second.

The feel-good story of the night Mike Rowe was running with the leaders just one spot out of the top 5 when Randy Goulet #45 and Mike Scorzelli #18 made contact trying to race for the lucky dog position. Caution number 6 caused an off-track excursion and a flat right front tire for the King and would end Rowe's shot at win number 153. Rowe would be able to continue on but was only able to climb back to 12th place with just not enough laps remaining.

The incident would allow a restart with just 20 laps remaining. Now Shaw had the opportunity to run down the 21 of Doiron who had previously looked like he had it easily in hand. Shaw was able to make quick work of Ashline before chasing down Doiron. Shaw worked the outside of Doiron for two laps and then tried the crossover move on Doiron coming out of turn two with just 12 laps remaining. Shaw drove inside Doiron up to his LR tire but Doiron tried to close the door contact ensued. The contact sent Doiron spinning out of the lead and would cost Doiron a shot at his second victory of the season.

The restart would go to Shaw, but before they could finish the lap Garret Hall #94 went around collecting Evan Beaulieu #56. Shaw was able to hold off Ashline and protege Gabe Brown on the 8th and final restart on the night.

Shaw now stands alone as the only driver with more than two PASS wins this season. A disheartened Shaw took to the mic to talk about his victory. When asked about the incident with Doiron for the lead Shaw said "Just hate it, thought I had a run on Joey there He's my best friend and it just takes the wind out of your sails." While the late race contact was not intentional Shaw was visibly upset with the situation. Either way Shaw went home the winner and that proves DJ Shaw is one of the favorites for the win in the 49th Annual Oxford 250 coming up on August 28th.

While Shaw maybe a favorite, don't count out the defending champions Johnny and Cassius Clark. With over 65 entries from across the United States and Canada the 49th annual Oxford 250 will be one of the most highly contested events in over a decade.

Limiteds, Streets, and MODS

In other racing action Colby Meserve was able to take his Rinaldi Energy #92 to victory lane in the DLM Landscaping and Excavation Limiteds Feature. Colby led all 50 laps enroute to his first big car win after graduating from the legend car ranks. Colby beat out series point leader Chris Smith and Rick Thompson for the victory. Tiger Colby was a competitive runner for much of the race, but after refusing to stop for the black flag that had been waved for body panels hanging off his car from a mid-race incident with Nate Leavitt and Kenny Harrison, his scoring card was pulled. Frank Wear's #20 was also bad fast but was scored multiple laps down after missing the initial green flag.

Jordan Russell picked up his 5th win of the season in the 50 lap Spaulding Roofing Street Stock Division. Russell closed the point gap ever so slightly on point leader Tyson Jordan with just a handful of races left in the season. Jordan led all 50 laps of the event and beat out 20 year veteran Richard Spaulding and leading rookie of the year candidate Cam Childs for the victory, Clyde Hennessey and Tyson Jordan rounded out the top 5.

Newly Knighted: Shawn Knight picked up his long awaited first Kennebec Equipment Rental PASS MODS win, going wire to wire in the feature. After three years of trying and countless podiums the #25 of Knight came through without a chink in his armor. Bill Fiske earned his best finish of his career also posting second place finish in the Bolstridge Excavation #10. With just one top five on the season prior, things are looking up for the Chester, NH native. Third place went to the GNG Gift  #38 of Garrett Lamb who extended his point lead over Brandon Varney by picking up his 6th Top 5 out of 7 races. Troy Morse out of Bridgton Maine brought his #6th home fourth and Ryan Ripley cam home 5th.

PASS MODS teams begin their prep for a double header weekend at Oxford August 27th and 28th as they accompany the American Canadian Tour and The Pro All Stars Series on Saturday and Sunday. While the Street Stocks and Limited Sportsman will prepare for triple header action racing all three days of the 49th Annual Oxford 250 weekend!
