TWO IN A ROW FOR ROWE

NORTH WOODSTOCK NH – The Pro All Stars Series made their fourth trip to White Mountain Motorsports Park Saturday night to complete the P.A.S.S. 150 and a great crowd watched Turner Maine driver Ben Rowe earn his second consecutive series victory. Bangor’s Gary Smith started a streak of his own, earning his second runner-up spot in two races and Jim McCallum raced back from an early pit stop to claim third.

Wayne Helliwell Jr. and Adam Friend led the field to the green flag, with Smith and Rowe filling out the second row. Hallowell jumped out to the early lead with Rowe working the low groove to run second and Louis Mechalides moving up from his eighth place starting slot to grab third in the Cushman Competition Ford. Rowe powered around Helliwell Jr. on lap 33 and the driver of the Mechanical Services /Hi-Tech Insulation Chevrolet battled door to door with Mechalides for 5 laps after a caution for spins involving Helliwell Jr., Larry Gelinas and Dave Avery tightened the field. Gary Smith took advantage of a lap 53 restart to work his Uncle Henry’s Monte Carlo underneath Mechalides for second as Jim McCallum worked his way back to the top five after a trip to the pits 20 laps earlier. Mechalides gave up third during a lap 67 caution period to seek attention from his crew and rejoined the rear of the field.

Smith gave Rowe his best shot on the ensuing restart but Rowe was up to the challenge and led the pack for the final 83 circuits to claim the $4,100.00 victory; Smith and McCallum rounded out the top three. Louis Mechalides charged back through the field to claim fourth, with Kenny Wright fifth in the Newmarket Sand and Gravel 02 and Helliwell Jr. sixth. Seventh through tenth were Gelinas, Sam Sessions, Northern Race Tires Rookie of the Race David Avery and Mike Parks.
