MARCH 2002 - #2

SHOW THANK YOUS – Just wanted to thank all of the teams that took part in the Northeast Motorsports show in Augusta, The Racin’ Preview 2002 in Portland, and Racerama in Springfield Mass. I know how much time, effort and expense this involves on your part, and I want you to know that your participation made the shows an outstanding success! We distributed hundreds of schedules and met many race fans. This will go a long way to building excitement for the series in 2002, as well as creating good exposure for you and your sponsors. Special thanks to all of the drivers who participated in the autograph sessions. This means a great deal to the fans.

PACE AMERICAN TRAILERS and ROUTE 202 TRAILER SALES have come on board as the official trailer supplier of the PASS. We’ll have a shiny new 24’ Pace American trailer to work from this year – definitely an asset for the tech crew and an image builder for the series. Many thanks to Todd Fitz at Route 202 Trailer Sales for putting this program together for us. I know many of you are thinking about upgrading your towing package, so please give the folks that are supporting us a shot at your business. I know you’ll be glad you did! They’re in Buxton Maine, and you can give them a call at 207-929-8032. Take a look at the Pace American line by visiting www.paceamerican.com and see Route 202 Trailer Sales at www.rt202trailers.com.

RACING AGAINST CANCER – We were next door to Star Speedway’s booth at the Racin’ Preview, and I spent quite a bit of time talking with Bob Webber Jr. I was very impressed with his dedication to The Racing Against Cancer program and his commitment to raising funds for a cure. P.A.S.S. will be getting involved in the Racing Against Cancer cause with a fundraising program of our own in the near future; Race teams and race fans can support the cause by joining the “Hundred Club”. As a member you’ll receive a special Hundred Club sticker for your car as well as recognition on the Star and TJ Webber sites, and a plaque at the end of the season. And most of all, you’re helping those stricken with this disease. Many thanks to Andy Shaw and Tom Estes for kicking this off with their memberships. To sign up, send a $100 check made payable to Racing Against Cancer to P.O. Box E, Epping NH, 03042.

The OXFORD ENTRY is included with this mailer and please get it back to us as soon as possible. We’re making an effort to get the entry blanks out earlier than in the past and we will be strict regarding the deadlines for early entries. This saves you a couple hundred bucks if you get them in on time. – that’s tire money friends! We can’t publicize the fact that you’re racing unless you make it official that you are, so take care of your sponsors and get those entries in timely. If you’re going to buy a PASS license, please don’t wait until the commotion of opening day. That’s not the time to be doing paperwork. Contact me if you need a form and we’ll send one out to you. Remember, 100 bonus points to licensed teams only.

WEBSITE - If you haven’t been by www.proallstarseries.com lately, you’d ought to check it out. Norm Marx has added a team roster form that you can print off the site and complete so he can update your individual web pages on the site. Please have the person on your team that takes care of your PR go on the site and do this.

Your sponsors deserve accurate and up to date info on the site. It’s especially important for new teams. We’re also looking for news from your team – new sponsors, new plans (like a full season of PASS!), team members and so forth. We’ll post your story right on the PASS site. Norm also has a huge selection of photos from 2002 that will spiff up a website or proposal – he can even build a site for you! Very professional and affordable. Call him at (978) 957-0877 or send him an email at nmarx-dtp@attbi.com.

SUNOCO RACE FUEL has signed on as a major sponsor for 2002. Their Standard and Supreme products are our official spec fuels, and they’re the only ones eligible for competition. Fuel will be tested at all events and we’ll have a “zero tolerance” policy for fuel that doesn’t test to spec, and penalties to match. This is an important cost savings measure for our teams; you won’t see any more tricked out qualifying fuel on the PASS. I’ll have barrels of both Standard and Supreme available shortly in Naples. Northern Race Tires will also stock the fuels, or you can get yours from your favorite Sunoco dealer as well as at the track. Call or Email me or Northern Race Tires if you have any questions on it.

WELCOME ABOARD to Ken Farrington, who will be giving Paul Johnson a hand at most of our races this year. I know he needs no introduction to many of you; he’s been an important part of the Northeast racing scene for many years and we feel privileged to having him on the PASS Team.

TRUE VALUE HARDWARE has just signed to sponsor our heat races at all of the U.S. shows – A bonus to each driver who wins a heat plus a special prize (or prizes) at the end of the season, T.B.A..  We will be distributing a discount coupon that our fans can redeem at any True Value Hardware in New England.   Another well respected national company with a great motorsports tradition, investing in our series. I’m proud to have them on board, and I know you are too!

ROOKIES – SIGN UP NOW! Northern Race Tires will once again sponsor the Rookie of the Year program – a free American Racer to the top rookie in each event, plus four more and a nice trophy to the Rookie of the Year. You have to sign up for this, so call me for a form or print it HERE. Let’s not try to get all this done on opening day! You need to be licensed and meet the eligibility criteria (no more than 5 touring pro stock or NASCAR touring series races in any one previous year) as well. This program is great exposure for our new teams, so get signed up so we can let the racing community know you’re on board.

THOMPSON - I met with Don Hoenig (the owner of Thompson) and Ben Dodge at Raceramma and once again was assured that we will be on the card there. They’re just trying to work out the best date possible for our visit. I apologize for not having this resolved as I know many of you need to plan your summer vacations and activities around the schedule. We’ll get it handled as soon as possible.

REMEMBER that we will be clock scoring all of the races this year, and you’ll need to have a scorer on your team to get that very important job done!

LESS THAN SIX WEEKS to the opener at Oxford! Seems hard to believe, doesn’t it?  Thanks to all of you for your support of the PASS and what we’re trying to accomplish here. We’ve made a great deal of progress over the off-season with an expanded schedule, a bigger point fund, and a number of new sponsors. The racing world will be paying close attention to us this season and we have great momentum heading into it. If we keep going down the same path as we did last year, we’ll continue to grow and be a series you’ll be proud to compete on. I’ll put you guys up against any touring series, anywhere – you’re the ones that make it all happen, and we couldn’t do it without each and every one of you. Look forward to your Email at tnmmayberry@netscape.net or your calls at (207) 693-6497.

 Thanks again…TOM MAYBERRY

 January 2002 - #1

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  Hope you all had a happy and healthy holiday season with family and friends! It’s hard to believe but our opener at Oxford on April 14th is just 3 months away. We’ve been hard at it since the banquet, trying to prepare a bigger and better PASS season for 2002. Thought it was time to bring you up to speed on a few of the happenings………

SHOWS-SHOWS-SHOWS - This year we are fortunate to have the opportunity to publicize the Pro All Stars at all of the pre-season racing shows. It’s a great opportunity for fans to meet the drivers and see the cars up close. A special thank you to everyone taking part in the Northeast Motorsports Expo in Augusta. I know the early date is a challenge to get ready for. Please note that we will also have displays at the Racin’ Preview in Portland, Racerama in Springfield Mass and Oxfords’ two mall shows in Auburn and North Conway. We will need drivers for autograph sessions and cars for all of them so be sure to let me know if there’s a particular show or shows you’d like to take part in and I’ll do my best to accommodate you. Thousands of race fans attend and it’s great exposure for both your sponsors and the Pro All Stars Series.

2002 SCHEDULE – As you can see, 2002 will be an exciting year for the PASS! We’ve added Oxford and Unity dates (2 each) as well as a second date at Star. Thompson WILL be on the schedule – the management has assured us of this – but they still have some details to work out on the date as well as the format so we have left it as a “TBA” for now. We also have one more race date to fill; we’re working on that but ran out of time before the Augusta show. We intend to have the remaining two dates firmed up in January. We’ve done our best to keep the series in the heart of Pro Stock country for 2002, and the travel shouldn’t be too bad. Hope you like the looks of it!

2002 PASS Schedule HERE

PURSES AND POINTS – The purse structure will remain the same for 2002; a fair number on top for the winner and a decent payoff at the back of the field. Most teams seemed to prefer this so we decided not to fool with it. We have streamlined the point fund for 2002. There will be one series points fund with $12,000 going to the 2002 PASS champion (a 20% increase over last years’ three championships combined} and $1,000 for fifteenth place. Teams must make 13 of the 15 events to qualify. See the Purse/Points Structure form for all the details; the 2002 travel plan is detailed there as well.

SPONSORS – Although we are still working hard to sell the series’ title sponsorship, we are fortunate to have several new and returning sponsors on board. D.N.K. Select Used Cars of Farmingdale Maine has provided us with a sharp Camaro convertible to pace all our races. This adds another touch of class to our show, and we’re very appreciative of D.N.K.’s support. If you’re looking for a late model car, truck, or SUV, please give them a shot at your business. Of interest to racers is the fact that they always have several clean late-model “duallys” on hand. Contact Doug White or Charlie Clark at 207-582-4531 and tell them the PASS sent you! (and stay off of Roland’s rear bumper at Oxford, please!) The New England Dodge Dealers will sponsor our first Oxford race, and we welcome them. P&K Sand and Gravel and the Western Maine Concrete Contractors will be the title sponsors for the Oxford finale, while Kawasaki-Polaris of Laconia will sponsor the second White Mountain date. Northern Race Tires will continue to sponsor the Rookie of the Year program, while Sunoco Race Fuels will step up their involvement with the PASS for 2002– look for an announcement on that soon.

THANK YOU! To everyone who has taken the time to give share his or her ideas and suggestions on making the PASS a better race series for 2002. Thanks to all of you, it looks like a very exciting year ahead. Your input is always welcome so if you have an idea or a question, call me at (207) 693-6497 or send me e-mail at tnmmayberry@netscape.net.
