MECHALIDES SCORES AT SCOTIA
Louie Mechalides' first Pro All
Stars Series win was a big one as the Tyngsboro Massachusetts racer drove his Cushman
Competition Ford Taurus to victory in the
Atlantic Cat 250 at Scotia
Speedworld in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Mechalides
bested local favorites John Fleming and Dave Gorveatt for the $7,000.00 payday. PASS
points leader Sam Sessions came home in fourth while Larry Gelinas drove all the way to
fifth from his 26th place starting spot. Mike MacKenzie, Gary Smith, Scott
Alexander, Dan Eddy and Northern Race Tires Rookie of the Race Richie Dearborn rounded out
the top ten. A Scotia Speedworld-record 5,000
race fans witnessed Mechalides victory.
Ben Rowes shot at a fourth
consecutive Pro All Stars victory was foiled by losing a cyinder while leading the race.
Canadian favorite Scott Fraser succumbed to brake woes after leading early in the event,
while pole starter Shawn Tucker watched the majority of the 250 laps from the sidelines
after brushing the wall and damaging his suspension in the early stages.
Dave Gorveatt earned the Sunoco
Race Fuels fast time award with a lap of 13.871 seconds, beating out Mike MacKenzie by
just five- one thousandths of a second. Tucker earned the number one starting spot by
winning the Pole Dash; Adam Friend and Sam Sessions copped heat race wins, while Eric
Hudson and Nova Scotian Mike Riley topped the consolation rounds. Rookie contender Thomas
Oliphant came home victorious in the Last Chance race. Thirty cars attempted to qualify
for the richest PASS event of the season.
The Pro All Stars get back in action on September 2nd when they
return to Speedway 95 in Bangor Maine. |
